Filling Space

I have a lot on my mind, and not sure what to write about first, or if any of it is worth recounting on the internet.

I'll start with my No Twitter experiment, which has been very successful, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to continue it indefinitely. It's so freeing to not care at all what is happening on Twitter. I'm less jealous of everyone in France, feel less ignored and displaced, and am overall happier.

Or is that the change in weather? The weather has been gorgeous this week. Most days it's been in the 70s, sunny, a lovely breeze. In short, wonderful! It's really nice to be able to get outside to walk around and enjoy the weather. I couldn't go outside much during the winter for a couple reasons. One, I am always cold, and taking a walk in subfreezing temperatures isn't my idea of fun, especially bald. You don't realize it until it's gone, but hair really does provide additional warmth. I don't know how people with short hair live through winter. Two, I couldn't risk slipping and falling on the snow and ice and breaking something. Unfortunately tomorrow we're getting rain and it's cooling down for the next 10 days. Spring will be here for good eventually...

It's so nice having a social life. Today I went out for coffee with a friend, Wednesday night I have French group, either Thursday or Friday I'll be going to see a musical, Saturday I'm going to dinner with the French group, and at some point this week I hope to see other friends. I like having a reason to put on real clothes and makeup instead of just hanging around in my pajamas all day long.

Only one of these topics has actually been on my mind to write about, the rest are just useless space fillers. You'll have to wait for the juicy stuff.

I was thinking that it was probably good that you had to stay inside this winter, so that now when you do go out, it's actually nice weather! Sounds like you have a nice week ahead, no chance of a trade? I can offer you fun fun research seminars and private lessons with moody teenagers!

Hey Mir...

I couldn't agree with you more about Twitter.. I find it annoying and though I have an account... I rarely use it and I really couldn't be bothered with it, honestly! I think it's not worth it.. Maybe I'm just "too old" and then again.. I blog a lot and check in on FB quite often... No one ever "twitters" me anyway.... and I don't twitter anyone... for that matter...
Glad the weather is getting better - This a.m. there is NOT A CLOUD in the sky.. I was going to go to the gym, but I got to the bus stop and turned around.. Not yet feeling up to it...
Anyhow.. I'm happy you are getting out now and I know that will make a difference..
Take care and have a nice week...
Leese

I had a twitter account and deleted it because I found it as another time waster and something I didn't have the time or energy to update! With a blog and facebook its enough for me.

I'm so glad its warming up too! I had a horrible slip over winter on the ice and have a lovely clicking shoulder as a result. Re-injuring a previous injury (last time it was a slip in the shower!).

Sounds like a lovely week planned. Glad you are getting out and about now, it must feel so good, and even better to coincide with great spring weather. Its so changeable here: 20°C today and then 11°C tomorrow. Have a lovely week!

Well, I do like twitter for my own purposes, but I can appreciate not wanting to check in on social media that are only punishing. Why is such behavior (like studying old crushes' fb pages) so tempting and yet so depressing?

Hope we'll find time to hang out sooooon! Be in touch--let's make it happen.

I'm jealous you've found a French group! That's so exciting... I want one around here, but Stockton's not exactly a hot spot for the French language. Haha, that's why I want to move to a big city so I can find something like that :)

You deserve to go out and have a great time!!

I am tech challenged. It takes me several minutes to write a text message so forget twitter for me.

I hate the cold as well for various reasons (bad hands and left shoulder get sore in frigid temps) so the spring is welcomed. Last week this month is Bahamas time so I get guaranteed warm weather!

Enjoy your friends, good ones are so hard to find.

Andromeda - It was definitely a bonus that the transplant was during the winter rather than spring or summer. Can you imagine missing all the sun and nice weather? That would have sucked. I think I'll keep my plans, good luck with the moody teenagers!

Leesa - The reason I was so attached to twitter is that since I'm no longer in France, it was a way for me to stay informed on what people I know there are doing, things I might otherwise not have heard about. But I really don't like the culture of constantly updating it with every single mundane detail of every single day. Do I need to know what bar X went to tonight? No, that just makes me wish I were there too. But I do want to know if Y got a job, or something else important. So it's a balancing act, I guess.

Kim - big yikes on the shoulder injury! What are the odds of injuring the same shoulder in two sort of bizarre ways? Your weather forecast sounds exactly like ours, it was 23, tomorrow 18, and Thursday and Friday only 10!

Mary - I was also super anti-facebook when I had my first transplant 4 and a half years ago. I couldn't go on it at all because it made me so upset and jealous of everyone I knew, all in college, senior year, having a wonderful time, and I was stuck in a hospital room. But facebook is okay for me this time around. Guess it just depends.

Monique - Thanks! That is unfortunate about the French conversation though. have you checked out meetup.com? That's how I found this group, there might be one close to you that you could go to. Better option is probably moving to a bigger, less sketchy town!

GYC - Thanks! My dad doesn't even know how to check voicemail on his cellphone. Hope you aren't that challenged! Bahamas sounds fantastic, hope you'll be posting pics.

Luckily I can do voicemail! I usually forget to take pictures for some reason but maybe I will remember this time out.

There is no shame in writing a "normal" post after all you've been through! I learned a lot from you the last few months in terms of drugs & hospital but I'm glad you can now enjoy the weather (it's not that cold even after the super gorgeous winter) and quelques amis francophones.

GYC - voicemail is a step in the right direction!

Zhu - Thanks! Mostly I was just worried that it was boring, but apparently everyone likes to talk about the weather and twitter and French conversation group. Who knew?

Hey Mir...

I think I'm too ADD for Twitter.. I couldn't be bothered with all the one sentence updates... hehehe!
I do understand your wanted to keep up with with was going on...

I'm super glad you found a French group... How cool!

Well, there is boring and boring (that helps, doesn't it?!).

Sharing snippets of life is fun sometimes, especially when people can relate. I personally get bored with someone goes on a on about how she went out with X, ate Y, saw U etc. especially when I don't know the people.

My analysis sucks, I KNOW! :-)

Leesa - isn't the point of twitter that it's for people who are ADD and can't concentrate for more than one sentence? :)

Zhu - I totally get what you mean. A log of every single person you saw and thing you did isn't so interesting, but little tidbits about common interests can be.

I guess the ADD thing explains why I love Twitter :)
