Not much envie to write a detailed post. I've been taking full advantage of my freedom by going out to eat several times and shopping a bit. Tonight I went back to my French conversation group for the first time since before my transplant. It was good to be back and speaking in French. I was kind of tired from being out all day and very much out of practice speaking French so after about an hour and a half I started forgetting words and mangling my sentence structures. It will get better with more practice.

Thursday and Friday I have a bunch of tests - pulmonary function, EKG, echocardiogram, CT scan, bone marrow biopsy, and lumbar puncture. I was supposed to have a PET scan as well but my insurance has denied it and we're in the appeal process. Supposedly they will almost certainly say yes, it's usually something about the disease code or some silly bureaucratic garbage like that.

I had some really bad news from two friends today. Makes all of this being able to go out and do things seem terribly artificial. I would trade it and so much more in a second for them to not have to deal with this.

My best wishes for you. Lumbar puncture is not a good Friday activity.

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate pre-Passover. Finish with those tests as quickly and with as little pain as possible, kick your insurance in the butt, and I hope you can relax a bit over the weekend. Did you buy anything fun while shopping? Sending you good holiday wished...

Hi Mira...

I hope your tests went well.. with everything being okay...
I hear you about your friends... it is so sad and discouraging when we hear that people we love and care about aren't doing well..
It makes our hearts heavy and it's really unbearable. I know you are a great friend to them and that you will be of comfort to them...
Sometimes there are just no words to say.. because to me, life can be so unfair, it just takes my words away and I don't know what to say...
All my best and I'm thinking of you and your friends...
Leese

I find speak foreign languages when tired very entertaining. I can speak either very well (I guess because I'm tired I'm not self-conscious) or very bad. Either way I find it fun. The brain has fun way to trick us!

How can your insurance deny the PET scan??? Ugh. I hate insurances companies so much...

Oops, realized there are so many mistakes in my post. "speaking" for instance.

See, I'm tired...! :-D

I speak foreign languages best when I've been drinking. Like Zhu, self-consciousness is my own worst enemy.

On a more serious note, I'm very sorry to hear about your friends :(

Thanks for all the good wishes.

Zhu - my official diagnosis is a type of leukemia. Leukemia, being a blood cancer, usually wouldn't require any kind of imaging of organs using PET and CT because usually you don't get tumors. But of course, gut leukemia is tumors, so I need a PET. Basically we just have to explain it (agaaaaiiiin) to the insurance, and they will almost definitely approve it. Like I said, it's just bureaucratic junk.
